Bouton here illustrates parallel occurrences inside St Roch Church in Paris. A group with confirmation is sitting down on the left while parishioners engage in individual prayers in adjoining areas. The spatial associations are conveyed through the suggestive treatment of light. There is not just one viewpoint, but many. Unsurprisingly, Bouton together with Louis Daguerre originated the diorama, in which unnatural light created an illusion of motion.
