Meindert Hobbema, (born October 31, 1638 in Amsterdam; † December 7, 1709, there) was on of the most important Dutch landscape painter in the second half of the 17th century, just like Jacob van Ruisdael. Warm brownish tones determine the tranquil autumn scene in this painting called “Street on a Dam”. Paths lead the eye into the picture and thus create the impression of depth. When it comes to light, Hobbema is very accurate.  Slightly damaged the painting, or presumaply a print, can be found a Taverneum in Zurich
